I will be posting Panjabi Proverbs, Muhavare, Sayings etc. They come to mind through the day and may interest others. The proverbs convey something of the language and culture of Panjab, and are also often entertaining! There are sound files included for those who want to listen to these pearls of wisdom!

Sakhi nalau
ਸਖ਼ੀ ਨਾਲੋ ਸੂਮ ਭਲਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੁਰਤ ਦੇਵੇ ਜਵਾਬ
Sakhi (friend) nalau (from) soom (miser) bhalla (better) jihra (who) torret (immiediately) davai juvab (give answer, but in here it means says no).
It means: a miser person is better than a friend as he readily says that he can't lend the money where a friend keeps making promises but never lends any money.
